MUSIC BY CÉSAR ALVAREZ AND THE LISPS, LYRICS AND BOOK BY CÉSAR ALVAREZ
STORY DEVELOPMENT AND ADDTL. TEXT BY MOLLY RICE
DIRECTED BY BRIEN LANG, MUSIC DIRECTION BY MILLY MASSEY

Two people try to imagine their way out of impossible circumstances in FUTURITY – an avant-Americana musical by indie band The Lisps. Julian is a Civil War soldier dreaming of a technological utopia. Ada is a mathematical genius thousands of miles away. Together, they’re going to invent a machine to end one of the darkest periods in our history.

Directed by Brien Lang with Music Direction by Milly Massey and featuring an army of performers armed with everything from banjos to pipes and chains to bandsaws, FUTURITY is the theatrical experience thrilling audiences of all ages this season.

RAVE REVIEWS FOR FUTURITY

"Anyone who dismisses musical theater as mindless fluff will find plenty to savor in Wilbury Theatre Group's powerful and intelligent production...Wilbury Theatre Group specializes in edgy and innovative work which takes chances. Here, the risk pays off in spectacular fashion: Futurity is one of the year's best shows." -EDGE Providence (read review)

"There has never been a musical quite like Futurity — it’s wacky, bending all the rules and pushing all the lines of demarcation in American theater. Yet, instead of being different just for the sake of it, the play makes terrific sense and becomes wildly entertaining in the process...Futurity is easily the most unique and exciting theatrical experience around." - The Providence Journal (read review)

"The cast’s music and vocal talents are rapid fire and always able to switch on a dime, change the mood in seconds. All of this could easily be overdone. But the quicksilver vibrancy of the performers, and the ever-brightness of the music keeps Futurity on the tracks...If you enjoy an evening of over the top music, art and ideas, it just might be for you. It was for me." - The Public's Radio (read review)

"You don't have to be a science fiction fan to love what the Wilbury has done here. If you are drawn to shows that expand your definition of "musical," you'll discover a richly theatrical experience, with fine performances, outstanding voices, and music that will leave you thinking." - Broadway World (read review)

"
A stunning, must-see show....be sure to catch Futurity at Wilbury Theatre Group. This show is one more feather in the cap of this up and coming theatre company. They always do cutting edge work." - Theater Mirror (read review)

"
Wilbury's Futurity scores big time....
Director Brien Lang has taken Alvarez’s inspiring music, gathering ten actor/musicians, and giving the audience 90 minutes of messages about war, peace, slavery, mathematics, machines and the human condition, all wrapped up in one evening of lively theatrical entertainment." - Cranston Herald / Warwick Beacon (read review)
